Coming February 26th! The next release from Surfliner.

NYC-based bedroom soul artist Tymie Tuesday announces her debut single "Golden," a collaboration with indie-fusion outfit Surfliner. Sultry, smooth, and intimate, "Golden" paints a heartwarming picture of a free feeling. Her debut single will be out February 26th on North By South Records.

After months of isolating alone in New York, I briefly got to visit a close friend of mine in the beautiful coastal town of Duxbury. Finally getting to be back in nature brought a revelation for me. I felt excited about life again and wanted to hold on to that feeling. For a long time I’ve wanted to release music, but there was never anything that came together as easily and effortlessly as “Golden”. When Tyler sent over an instrumental titled “Golden” , I was inspired to write a song that expressed how far I’ve come as a person, especially after spending so much time in isolation. “Golden” was a turning point for me.

We wanted to share with you a write-up from our closest collaborator, photographer Ben M. Collins. Here, he shares what Psychic Blues means to him and it jerked a few tears from us for sure:

In the music industry there’s something called an album cycle. This time consists of the duration of time between an artist's last release and their next album. Artists pack the time between albums with gigs, media, promotion, tours, writing, recording, and in some cases, downtime. I’m lucky to have had a close up lens (literally and figuratively) to the development of a young band through this time.

Surfliner released Kiska in January 2019. ‘Kiska’, if you don’t know, is a named after a World War 2-torn island in the Pacific Ocean. Off the coast of Alaska, the weather on Kiska can be brutal. Vermont winters may not be nearly as harsh as Kiska, but they can still be brutal. The walks from my dorm room to class a couple years ago were pretty brutal, with below 0 temperatures and ripping winds. Many mornings, I'd throw my headphones on, hit play on 'Kiska' and bundle up and step outside.

Fast forward to June, I find myself directing the ‘Nowhere to Go’ music video alongside my good friend Casey Allen. A shoot that felt more like a lazy summer day than work. A week or so later, Sam, Tyler, and I moseyed down to Shipyard Beach one morning. We were aiming for a couple photos for press, social, and potentially the single cover. We could not have picked a better day. Not a cloud in the sky.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. That day changed the direction of my career. Once I saw my own photograph on Spotify, that was a game changer. I quickly dove headfirst into music and portrait photography and began stepping away from filmmaking. I felt evermore confident in that decision when I photographed Surfliner at Levitate Music Festival. They lit up the stage and I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph them and countless other amazing artists.

The fall brought ‘Far Too Fast’, another single which my photograph appeared on. After a long winter, the spring brought ‘Swell’ and ‘Rolling On’, with the time in limbo being some of the most pivotal and incredible moments of my life.

I’ve seen this band grow in size and symbol. I’ve seen pure joy onstage and offstage. I’ve seen ultimate exhaustion as 3 am rolls around on I-95, with New York City and the promise of a couch to sleep on on the horizon. I’ve laughed harder than I ever have before and felt more inspired than ever before with this group.

This album is the product of everything a young band goes through. Countless hours of the aforementioned. Countless hours in front of the computer writing and recording. Countless hours to and from gigs. Bus rides, train rides, car rides. Countless hours rehearsing, networking, growing, planning, only to have their entire plans uprooted with the rest of the world. There’s a bit of that on this album as well.

For me, this album signifies a lot. Growth, change, laughter, joy, exhaustion, green rooms, living room floors, granola bars for dinner. Warmth and sunshine. Frozen, desolate winter beaches warmed by company. Dreams of the city with love for the country.
This little incubator of love and passion that is ‘Psychic Blues’ is out into the world today. I hope you all find some meaning and enjoyment in it as I have.
Enjoy and shoutout to Sam, Tyler, John, Harry, Tymie, and the countless others in this wonderful circle for being some of the best friends a guy could ask for. Thank you for the beautiful music.

“Half alive but paid my dues. Keep on rolling, Psychic Blues.”

Ben M. Collins
